Absolutely killer advice too. Most of my jobs are overseas and this is really close to how we do it.
What lens/camera/filter are you filming this with? It looks amazing.
The first example of directing actors showed clips from movie Vicky Cristina Barcelona by Woody Allen, who is famous for just casting the right actor for the role and saying almost nothing to them before or during the shooting. And he gets amazing performances from the performers!
Great video. Related to checklists and avoiding decision overload are routines; something that really works for me is keeping a consistent kit list and setup process for similar shoots and events, even if that means bringing slightly more kit. The more you drill the same packing routine, setup and derig, the faster you get and the more you can do on autopilot. I might bring something I only need 85% of the time, but doing it as part of a routine is still faster and less mentally taxing than trying to figure out whether I'll need it or not.
What lens did you use to shoot this? Do you recommend image stabilize lenses with the R5 C when using a gamble?
Entirely valid points. Static camera work can be incredible.
I've never seen anyone talk about this until now
Amazing tips here! You are so right about checklists and mark how many bags/cases. Thank you!
I don't have 8 mins. Tell me, the secret is to have many tiny compartments inside my gear case?
Then watch it when you have 8 min to watch
@@tigran3409 It's just a joke. 🤷♂️
Really good advice. Thanks for uploading!
Wise advice. 😊👍
Thanks! 🙂
Cheers pal.
3:32 "dim to taste" is my new favorite phrase for adjusting LED light brightness now
That was fab. I learned a lot! Thank you.
Trana make movies too
Glad it was helpful!
A viewfinder is a must for any true cinematographer.
Hey Crimson , really nice video ! I was wondering if I could help you with more Quality Editing in your videos and also make a highly engaging Thumbnail and also help you with the overall youtube strategy and growth ! Pls let me know what do you think ?
Love the idea. Tried it out and seriously thinking of subscribing
I’d be worried about missing focus in a run and gun situation for travel films
Did I miss the "How to make a movie" part, somehow?
Still love my C200 - full XLR ports, RAW 4K DCI 60fps and much more.
Unfortunately, he falls into the trap A lot writers do thinking that if you follow structure, your film will be like every other film - that’s like saying if you’re a human with a head, two arms, a spine and two legs that you’re like every other human. Back to the Future, Star Wars, Jaws and the Matrix all follow a similar save-the-cat structure but they are completely different films. Without structure your film is less likely to be genius and more likely to just be a mess. Good structure is not something the audience should even be aware of like background music it creates the magic but is transparent to everyone but professionals.
It's beyond me, why the market isn't flooded, like the monitor market, with EVF's there's practically no options below several thousand dollars. And they mostly suck. Any recommendations?
Great timing. Was looking at getting a shorter Nanlite, but these are insanely afforable!
I used to have quite a few Genaray lights. I'm not sure why they never really caught on with the main stream filmmakers. So of their stuff was pretty innovative back in the day.
Dude, The audio on this is sooo Good. Wow.
thanks
Id love to see your review of the new smallrig mini v mount batteries.
Where did you get the information that the monitor is "open standard" that's sounds very unlike Canon. I can't find any info on this.
CVP's video. It could be that they were talking about USB-C being open. It hasn't been confirmed yet.
I love your content so much!
I have an FX9 and I am thinking of going to the C400. Also thinking if it would be a downgrade but looking at it on paper the C400 beats it and does more.
I'm not so sure yet, every camera has it's own artefacts. Looks like theres denoising artefacts on Canon's promo short film video at 1.25 and 1.28. fairly terrible on the blue light...That doesnt seem to happen on Burano. I've included their promo footage here from Canon USA.... has anyone tested this yet? ua-cam.com/video/cyeAf5SFExg/v-deo.html Also note that it's missing IBIS, so no handheld with prime or vintage lenses without a gimbal. Focus breathing correction is also missing...12bit raw - These days 13-16bit compressed raw is becoming the norm. But great to see triple ISO. Keep it competitive Canon!
😮😮
You look even more gorgeous
Hello, guys, Canon EVF-V50 OLED Viewfinder Will this viewfinder fit the new Canon C400 camera and will it work? and the second question is, is it possible to fix the manfrotto pad directly to the bottom of this chamber? or do you need an additional platform separately?
downgrade from C500 Mark 2? I had that camera, it's amazing but this looks to be on par if not better... I see a lot of guys defending the c500 that own them, it feels like the guys defending buying a Burano, I miss my c500 Mark2, this has got me tempted to jump back to Canon, I definitely wouldn't feel like I'm missing anything buying a C400 over a C500 Mark 2..
I would say that this is an upgrade from C500 II. I have an FX9 and I am thinking of going to the C400. Also thinking if it would be a downgrade but looking at it on paper the C400 beats it and does more.
You don't know what you're talking about
And how much was the Burano again?
That sounds like a mexican food
@@mbismbismb A lot of the cool kids call it the Burrito, even some who own it.
C600 confirmed
What? Where? When?

When the C300 Mark III launched, it was $10,999USD. At $7,999USD, the C400 is $3,00USD less than the C300 Mark III's original price.
Too late for Canon, the amazing 2 000 $ Eclipse is near to be available ! ua-cam.com/video/sSKlqLseHog/v-deo.html
What are you using for eyelight in this video?
The new GH7 have 32bit flot audio. I guess that will be on the C600
Am I the only one who thinks full frame is vastly overrated for anything outside of docu and feature films?
Full frame for life
I used to think FF was stupid, still do to a point, I dislike the FOV compared to S35 for one thing. The heavier, more expensive lenses for another. BUT , I did recently buy an FX6 for a particular client who has repeating weekly gig that they shoot on two other Sony cameras so I kind of had to buy a Sony for this client. It's shot in a theater with theatrical lighting which as many of you have experienced, translates to pretty low lighting levels for video shooting. It is a live streamed gig so shooting Slog 3 with it's base ISOs of 800/12,800 isn't possible but the FX6 in S-Cinetone still has base ISOs of 320 and 5000. At ISO 5,000, our TD still is amazed by how good the image looks. I own three Canons and they look decent at ISO 2500 but the Sony is impressive at ISO 5000. I still don't like the FOV, but for this gig, where I don't get to light it and I have to work with whatever the LD is putting out, the FX6 has been an effective tool, client loves how good the images look at such a high ISO. I'm still not a fan of Sony and I think this FX6 is crappiest built pro camera I have ever owned but for this one gig, it serves its purpose well because of the FF, high base ISO and really good AF. It's handheld (well, Easy Rig) with me constantly moving and switching off subjects who are also moving so the AF is kind of a necessity even though I prefer manual focus mostly. The takeaway is, even if you aren't a fan of a certain camera or manufacturer, sometimes, it's still the right tool to use. I shot the first few episodes with one of my Canons and the client did not like the footage, so I rented the FX6 a couple of times and they loved it so I had to buy it. This gig will have the FX6 paid for in about two more months of shoots and then it will generate profit/income for me each week and I already used it for a gig for Mazda North America that paid a good chunk of it off too. Corporate clients really love Sony.
@@danbrockettDOPI completely agree. The point of my comment was to just say FF has been such a trend for everybody lately that it makes it so that it sounds like the only and best option. I don’t dislike FF at all. But I do believe that sometimes some people can overlook great systems and image quality simply because of sensor size. But I do completely understand you point and it’s valid.
The camera is amazing and priced well. My only complaint and this is complaint to all brands is just stop it with the stupid little screens. Just have a usb-c port and allow monitoring the footage and controlling the camera with our smart phones.
The camera is a home run, but just feels a bit late. FX6 users would need to sell their E Mount Glass and give up third party lenses to go with the C400.
Zack Snyder got paid a lot of money and he made some of the biggest box office bombs and money Losers of all time. He almost single-handedly ruined Warner Bros, a 100 year old studio. If Rebel Moons were released in theaters, his debt number$ would be even worse.
Great overview, thanks! Lots to like about this cam, though the choice of usb c for monitor and handle surprised me. Time will tell how secure and robust these connections are in the field.
Given the C500 mark II and the C400 plus the $1600 PL mount makes those cameras nearly the same cost, which is the better camera for doc work: formal interviews, on the fly interviews, b-roll, etc.
ALL THESE CAMAERAS WONT MAKE YOUR PRODUCTION BETTER. STOP FALLING FOR THIS GUYS
Spot on. EVERY CAMERA performs brilliantly in the right hands
@@Mr_Kenneth perfectly said. People will praise this camera until another one releases next month lol. I always think about the audience and the ones watching really give two shits what you shot with just as long as they can see it clear enough and the audio is good to their ears with a good story. The way camera companies make money is to mKe new cameras.
